Questions

Bitcoin price, halving and ETF questions

What is the Bitcoin price today?

Bitcoin was at $82,945 when this page last refreshed at 02:18 BST, up 0.42% over 24 hours, using CoinGecko's figure. It's refreshed every five minutes. If CoinGecko doesn't answer we try Binance, then DeFiLlama, so check the source printed beside the time on the price card. The charts are a bit different: they're drawn from daily closes, so for most of the day they'll trail the live number slightly.

When is the next Bitcoin halving?

Our current estimate is 24 Mar 2028, at block 1,050,000, which is 79,147 blocks on from where the chain is now. It's a rough date. We take the block height from mempool.space and assume blocks keep coming at the recent pace of about 9.7 minutes each, and that pace shifts whenever miners plug machines in or switch them off, so expect the date to wander by a day or two. When it does arrive, the reward for each new block drops from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC.

How can I get Bitcoin exposure without holding coins myself?

The routes we track are US spot ETFs, which hold 1,484,810 BTC between them, shares in the 152 listed companies that keep Bitcoin on their balance sheets, and mining shares. They behave quite differently, because an ETF follows the price less its fees, whereas a treasury company's shares also move with its debt and with how many new shares it issues. Most UK brokers don't offer the US-listed ETFs to retail customers, which is why our ETF tracker also covers the exchange-traded products listed in London and Europe.

What do the ETF flow figures show?

Each one is the net money that went into or out of the US spot Bitcoin funds on a single trading day, in US dollars, once new shares created and old ones redeemed are netted off. On 8 Oct 2026 the total was -$87.3m, and over the last five trading days it came to -$220.0m. We take the numbers from Bitbo, which publishes them after each US session, so the latest day shown is normally the previous trading day.
